.elliot lately.

lately elliot has grown so big i feel. we've noticed in the past two weeks that he is really putting on the length. he just seems so much taller. his newborn clothes still fit him, but they aren't going to last long which is unfortunate because 0-3 month clothes are all too fat for him. they fit his length but the arm holes and leg holes are gigantic. oh well, babies always look like they are swimming in their clothing. i'm hoping by the time he hits 2 months he'll be able to wear them easily.

elliot has a difficult time with sleeping. once we can get him to sleep, he will sleep like a charm. the problem is that his arms keep him up. he just keeps smacking himself in the face unintentionally. kevin devised a genius way in which we tie up his arms. all the swaddles we tried failed miserably. he could still pry himself loose sometime during the nap, but this way he is stuck for good. i'll have to take a picture of it this week.

he is becoming much more alert and aware, which right now is a bad thing. he notices noises a lot more, and will cry if we are working in the basement while he is trying to nap. he also notices when his bum is wet. before he couldn't care less, and now he is starting to realize that he is uncomfortable.

i'm hoping this extra alert and attentive phase brings on some more interaction with us. we are looking forward to when he starts copying our faces and starts to smile. right now he usually just sports this mega concerned faced with sad eyebrows and a wrinkled forehead.

he usually looks like this:

the other day i gave him his first haircut. kind of. he had these really long random hairs all over his head, so i just trimmed them down to the height of the rest of his hair. he looks less scraggly to me. kevin thought i was silly for cutting his hair because hardly anybody sees him, and they likely wouldn't notice. but i notice. and when i look at him for 30 minutes at a time several times a day, it drives me bonkers.

this weekend we are traveling to saskatoon for doug and donna's 30th anniversary party, and also for the robertson cousin birthday brunch bash. (which is the best brunch in the world) it will be our first road trip with a baby. everyone says traveling with a newborn is a piece of cake compared to traveling with a toddler, so i suppose we should enjoy it. but i dont know what to expect. he usually falls instantly asleep in his car seat when we are driving around town, but will he want to stay in that propped up position for 5 hours straight? i guess we will see!

also, fathers day is this weekend as well. i made a pretty cute gift for kevin that i am excited to give him. in the off chance that he reads this blog, i'll wait till after sunday to show you what it is.

stay tuned.

in the meantime, here is some more shots of the boy!

later days.

For some reason he looks so old in this photo.

haha. i kind of like when he is crying. such funny faces.

  1. Our swaddle problem answer is the "miracle blanket" basically a baby straight jacket. We love it and even ended up with 3 now. So if you want to borrow one for a week or so to try it out before you buy one let me know. We swaddled Nedra with it for 9 months. Anderson seems to be better at getting out already though.
