This little turkey was 14 months old on July 1st.
So far we have had a good summer together. Unfortunately since I am back at work now, it means our time outside has diminished from last year, and with our major basement renovations we haven't had much time to go on daily walks and bike rides like I anticipated, however we are still enjoying the front yard looking at bugs and sucking on rocks.
Right now Elliot is 100% walking. He prefers it to crawling and so far hasn't learned to crawl anything except the many flights of stairs in our house. (thankfully) We really enjoy him right now as far as playfulness goes, but for attitude that is a whole other story. He seems to constantly be teething, or cranky, or too attached to me. Dinner times when I can't be holding him or playing with him always and I need to cook dinner he has a nightly meltdown. He throws good tantrums too. He will get upset and bash his head into the floor only to start crying louder... because he bashed his face into the floor! I don't understand little kids, and I am getting really antsy for the days when I can give him a time out. Haha. But right now I know the things he is doing he doesn't understand, so I have to bite my tongue and try to distract him and help him feel better.
He is still a decently picky eater and doesn't eat a whole ton. But honestly I don't know how much a 1 year old is supposed to be eating anyways. He likes steamed veggies, macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese (anything with cheese), and recently started pounding back fish. He doesn't like any kinds of berries or oranges, and his fruit intake is mainly just bananas and pears. However, he doesn't hold back with the veggies, and I'd much rather have a veggie lover than a fruit lover any day. (easier on the budget)
Elliot is just barely starting to make out words. He mostly mimicks sounds and doesn't form full proper words, but he can say mama and dada and "hi" and I know he means to say those. His favourite word is "wow" and he uses "wow" especially often if he goes outside and is looking at bugs and plants, or if the kitty is around. Kitty is very wow.
He has learned to clap his hands recently too. Quite a bit behind other kids learning the skill, but he does it all the time now! The other day while I was trying to coax him to eat his toast I started clapping every time he put a piece in his mouth and now he demands it! Last night while eating pasta, he put a noodle in his mouth, paused to clap, and did another noodle. With another pause for clapping.
We are excited to see what other words and things he learns to do in the next upcoming months. It is still blowing my mind that in 3 short months he will be ready to attend nursery and get bossed around by other kids and have to start learning social behaviors and share and the like. Its tooo sooon! I want to keep him with me forever.
Anyways, that is my monthly Elliot update!
