.pregnancy thus far.

So I thought I would write a little bit about my experience so far. (it has obviously only been short lived since I am just 10 weeks)

We found out the begining of September and had such a hard time keeping it a secret. We told some good friends and decided not to tell our families till the begining of November when I would be 12 weeks along, but things happened and we ended up telling Kevin's family at Thanksgiving dinner last week. I think they were suprised. Doug's eyes went really big so he must have been.

Last night we told my family at Sunday dinner. We brought a cake that said "BABY TIME!", and for some reason it took a few seconds to catch on, but everyone was really excited. The conversation for the night was centred around babies, which is a common theme in the Sulz house since Sarah's baby comes over to hang out often, and Jenny's tummy is the size of a beach ball. A very cute beach ball.

As far as how I am feeling goes, I have been pretty ill since about 5 weeks. Week 5 -7 were the worst. I was throwing up multiple times a day and stayed home from work more than I'd like to admit. I feel like I have a pretty good handle on things now though. I am consistantly sick once a day now, and it is always after supper. I can handle just once a day, and I like the timing so I don't have to miss any more work.

Other than that, I have just been ULTRA exhausted. I have never taken more naps in my life than I do right now. I cannot make it through the evening without a nap when I get home from work.

I also didn't think we would give nicknames to this parasite that is sucking the life force out of me, but 2 weeks ago I told Kevin that the fetus is about an inch long. And he said "That's the size of a peanut". So it has been referred to as peanut since then between Kevin and myself. Pretty common nickname, but I guess it makes sense why.

Concerning questions about our future delivery plans, we are going to be delivering at the Lucina Centre in west Edmonton. We meet our midwife for the first time this week, at a group meeting with all the other ladies who will be delivering at the Bithing Centre in May. We are excited to see the facilities and check it out. www.lucinacentre.ca  We are very interested in having a water birth, and are pretty stoked to see what they have.
**side note: I took to watching some water birth videos a while ago, and there was this one birth video of a woman giving birth in a pool of dolphins! What will they think of next?

Anyways, that is about it for now. My cravings have been mostly pasta, (even cheap ichiban) and anything pickled (olives, beets, carrots, pickles, you name it).

Last night before we fell asleep Kevin said "It feels like you have been pregnant forever, doesn't it?"

It doesn't feel that way to me, but if he already thinks its been a long time, I wonder what SEVEN more months will feels like to him!

  3. I am excited that you are giving birth with a midwife and a water birth! How awesome is that? Jenny as you know was born at home with a midwife and was the only one who came on her own, early, and without the use of any drugs, pitocin, etc. You just get such a different level of care and will learn so much more about your own body. Enjoy this time. I remember nearly 26 years ago being pregnant with you...lots of morning sickness, lots of ligament paint and a gazillion stretchmarks,pre-eclampsia and a blood transfusion, but it was all worth it. You may learn to question whether or not "peanut" is really worth it, but he/she is....So proud of you!
