.birth story- part two.

He was. SO silent. I kept saying, "is he alright? shouldn't he be crying or something?" Turns out he was just mad at me for taking so long to push him out. I gave him a beautiful cone-head and a pretty stellar bruise since I took my time, but it paid off in the end!

Want to see his very first picture? Yeah, we are both in the gross water together. I look pretty tired, and he looks pretty waxy. If you notice, you can see how elongated his head it. This was taken about 3 minutes after he was born. Cord is still attached and the disgusting placenta still hasn't come out. The placenta was delivered about 10 minutes post- birth. (they offered to have me keep the gross thing. no thank you!)

Anyways, I didn't have a "transition" period where I wanted to leave, or I said "I can't do this" or I felt I needed drugs. Everything was pretty straight forward. There was the pressure, the constipation feelings, letting the baby come on its own, and relaxing the rest of my body. Too many things to think about other than sensations or excruciating pain.

We are very glad to have him home. We stayed at the birth centre for 3 hours after the birth. I got a chance to shower and they were able to clothe his nudity after measuring all body parts and count all fingers and toes. (they are all intact!) Best part was, they made us cinnamon waffles with loads of bacon, eggs, and fruit on the side! Delicious! But that didn't stop me from getting McDonalds on the way home. I was thinking about McDonalds through half my labour and I couldn't shake the craving.

Well, that is about it for birth story! So far Elliot is doing very well, I have inverted nipples so breastfeeding has been an interesting challenge, but he seems to have it now. Its funny having a newborn, because we can honestly say "oh, he ALWAYS does that" and whatever we are referring to isn't an over-statement. For the past 24 hours of life, he hasn't lived much! His most terrifying moment of his life was when we dressed him for the first time. And the most entertaining thing to happen in his entire life was when he peed all over his face while oozing meconium stool at the same time. I'm sure he'll have even more memorable moments as his life extends.

Okay. I've spoken too much. I know what everyone wants are pictures.

Just about to go home from the birth centre. All snuggled up with the carseat blanket that Auntie Heather made for him.
His #1 favorite pass time. Sleeping.
My ONLY pass times. Feeding, burping, sleeping. Repeat.
And last but not least, baby and dad catching a nap. (did I mention that Kevin has been AMAZING around a slave driver like me. he has to go fetch me things because of how sore my legs are today. I couldn't love him any more)

also, notice the nice bruise I left Elliot on top of his head. thanks to him taking the bullet for me, my hoo-ha is going to have a nice recovery.

Cheers!
