what does 2014 hold for us?

new year is finally here. these are a few things we have to look forward to in the upcoming year.

  • we are able to apply for a grant through the city once our tax return gets back, and if we were under the "low income" bracket, we might be eligible for a $20K grant to fix our basement! here is to hoping. our basement is in pretty rough shape and we just dont have the dough to fix it.
  • iceland/scotland trip! excited to take a dip in many hot springs, see old castles, and eat much fish n chips.
  • elliot's first birthday: hope he won't be too sad that his birthday cake won't contain any sugar, but i am sure he will cope, and really have no idea what he is missing out on. which brings me to...
  •  sugar-free 2014! its already been 10 days without sugar! my only accident was at a party i thought there was sparkling water in a pitcher, but it turned out to be sprite. i took one sip and threw it away. hurray me. tonight i made a sugar-free cake which was pretty good, but i could really taste the avocado that was put in it (supposed to take place of the butter, which i didnt realize till later that my recipe was not only sugar free, but dairy free. not doing that again) and on the whole it was a little bitter, but i do love dark chocolate so the cacao flavor wasn't too overpowering. i had meant to buy coconut milk to use for the icing, but realized that i accidently bought light coconut milk which doesnt get the really thick meat in it. i had to substitute with peanut butter and plain yogurt. (which was still good)
  • i go back to work in may! i can't believe how fast the time is passing, but it is creeping up on me. when tori gets back from her mission she is going to be my live-in nanny until she starts school in the fall. come september i don't really know what i am going to do with elliot but i am sure i'll find someone, .anyone interested in taking a 17 month old baby boy?? i would love you forever.
  • this summer i plan to hit up utah to visit Jaylene and also to visit my Grandma Sulz. its good to go see her every few years. i really enjoy staying at her place and playing rummy with her. sometimes she takes me out dancing which can be fun. them elderly men sure know how to dance! i hope elliot is up for an 18 hour car ride, because he frankly has no choice in the matter.
  • sarah gets married this year! its no surprise really, but i think she will have fun being able to celebrate what her and kenny already have. many years together and their baby girl. audrey is going to make such a cute flower girl.now i only have to wait for tori and meaghan to be married and then all the sulz's will be gone. nobody to carry on my dad's name.
  • well, that is really almost it for 2014. we set some goals of things that we would like to accomplish in this year as a family and personally and mine were to eat healthier, starting with no sugar and better meal plans and also to volunteer when asked to help someone out, especially in my ward. it's been challenging so far but i know i'll get blessings. thus far i have been asked to give a woman in the ward a ride to church every week and on top of getting me and baby ready, we are often late for church but i know it'll be a good thing. i've also started volunteering to be backup to the compassionate service committee so i have had the chance already to provide food to families.
well, that is about it! for my healthier meal plans, i am going to try to blog about the foods i cook, and also keep a running record of my weight gains and losses in the family weight loss group. i'm so glad my relatives have decided to open a discussion group on our weight goals! it is really helping me to focus more on what i can be doing.
