.cardboard christmas.

Last year for Christmas I cut out a Christmas tree from paper, pasted it to the wall, and then had our gifts below on top our our apartment sized deep freeze. This year however, our good friends Lauren and Brian are using our deep freeze in their apartment. So I decided to look elsewhere for Chrsitmas tree ideas. I am not a fan of a) the real tree that gets pine needles all over your house. I am 100% a fan of the smell, but not so much the mess, or the cutting down of the tree and b) I am not a fan of the fake christmas trees that you have to fluff out the branches, and assemble it all together, and then try and squish it into a box after christmas. They just take up so much storage space! So I found this,....

A cardboard christmas tree! It only stands 3 feet tall, but it is 3 times the size of our tree last year, so it is a definate improvement. I haven't recived this cardboard tree in the mail yet, but I plan to paint it and decorate it. The great thing about this tree, is I can just paint over it next year if I don't like it, or it doesn't match anymore.

The best part of this tree is that for every dollar spend, the creators will plant one tree in a damaged forest. So for a $20.00 cardboard tree, I am helping to plant 20 real trees in a forest! Also, they donate a portion to the "trees for america foundation" and with free shipping to Canada, how can you really go wrong?

I will post pictures of what it looks like after I have painted it!

And in case you think this is also a great idea, here is the website. Check it out. Buy a tree!

  1. I remember being a kid and having to do that, then again I lived on welfare with my family waaay back, and couldn't afford a tree. So we always either drew one on a piece of paper and taped it on the wall, or we use to use one of our plants and just decorated it! It is pretty stupid to get a tree, and use it for a certain amount of time, and then throw it out. It's a waste, and more and more all that cutting down trees, is taking away our oxygen! It's horrible! :( Such a commercialized holiday, and such a waste of trees! Good idea Rachael! :)
